With demand planning active and JD Edwards Orchestrator connected to external indicators—including national economic data—the ERP helped the company ask the right questions:
- How would purchasing 500 units affect cash flow?
- Did forecast demand justify the additional volume?
- Would the distribution center have enough space when the goods arrived?
- Would temporary warehouse space be required?
- Would additional storage costs eliminate the discount benefit?
- Which commercial strategy would be needed to move the inventory?
Value appears when processes are connected
A properly configured WMS can anticipate available space using lead time, product dimensions and storage requirements. Finance can show the cash impact. Planning can compare the purchase with forecast demand. Procurement can negotiate with complete information.
JD Edwards then becomes more than a transaction recording system: it helps prevent mistakes before they reach the operation.
